Authentication of Degree Documents

Should a newly appointed faculty member hold a foreign academic degree, the Appointing Department/ Institute should inform the newly appointed faculty member with the document authentication. The newly appointed faculty member may submit documents such as a degree or transcripts from a foreign educational institution to a ROC embassy, consulate, representative office, office or other agency authorized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to have the documents certified as authentic.

Reappointment of Salary Rank

For a newly appointed faculty member who has worked as full-time staff in domestic or foreign institutions after obtaining a doctorate degree, the work experience will be verified based on the relevance of the previous experience and the subjects the newly appointed faculty member is going to teach by Appointing Department/Institute Faculty Review Committee, and University Faculty Review Committee. A whole year of work experience will be calculated to raise one rank of the salary; however experience less than one year will not be calculated.

 

After the date of appointment determined

Reservation for Guest House III

If the date of appointment is determined, newly appointed faculty members are welcome to visit the Guest House III in person, or entrust the Appointing Department/ Institute to visit the Guest House III and make a reservation for them.

 

Before

Faculty Appointment Certificate

Office of Personnel will provide the Faculty Appointment Certificate before the date of appointment. For those urgent cases, the Appointing Department/ Institute may ask Office of Personnel to provide the Faculty Appointment Certificate after the new faculty appointment case approved by University Faculty Review Committee.

Work Permit Application

Full-time/ Part-time faculty members:applying to the Ministry of Education (MOE)

      Office of Personnel and the Appointing Department/ Institute must apply for the Work Permit for the newly appointed faculty member to the Ministry of Education.

Projected-based employees:applying to the Ministry of Labor (MOL)

      The Appointing Department/ Institute must apply for the Work Permit for the newly appointed faculty member to the Working Development Agency, Ministry of Labor.

1. entering the R.O.C. (Taiwan) with the Employment Gold Card or e-Entry permit

Employment Gold Card

The Employment Gold Card is a combination of a resident visa issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a work permit issued by the Ministry of Labor and an Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) and a re-entry permit both issued by the National Immigration Agency (NIA).

The applicant may enter the system of "FOREIGN PROFESSIONALS ONLINE APPLICATION PLATFORM" from the NIA (website: https://coa.immigration.gov.tw/coa-frontend/four-in-one/entry/) to apply for the Employment Gold Card.

After approved, the applicant will receive an email of approval notification sent automatically by the system. The applicant may retrieve the Employment Gold Card overseas or after entering Taiwan. For overseas application, the applicant may operate the "Download e-Receipt" and "Download e-Entry permit" functions in the "Download Area" to obtain the electronic files. The e-Entry permit is only for overseas applicants to download, and must be printed in color and used for the first time upon arrival. After arrival, the applicant may retrieve the Employment Gold Card at local service centers of the NIA.

2. entering the R.O.C. (Taiwan) with a Resident Visa

Resident Visa

The Appointing Department/Institute may send/forward the original copy of the Work Permit to the newly appointed faculty member.

The newly appointed faculty member may apply for a Resident Visa from an R.O.C. (Taiwan) overseas mission.

After

Alien Resident Certificate (ARC)

The newly appointed faculty member who enters the R.O.C. (Taiwan) on a Resident Visa must apply for an Alien Resident Certificate at local service centers of the National Immigration Agency within 15 days from the next day of arrival.

3. entering the R.O.C. (Taiwan) with a Visitor Visa

Visitor Visa

The newly appointed faculty member may apply for a Visitor Visa from an R.O.C. (Taiwan) overseas mission.

 

After

Application for Resident Visa and ARC

Resident Visa

The newly appointed faculty member who enters the R.O.C. (Taiwan) on a non-extendable Visitor Visa for the purposes of employment, investment, business or tourism may apply for a Resident Visa 8 work days prior to the duration of stay expires. The newly appointed faculty member may apply, without having to leave Taiwan, to the Bureau of Consular Affairs or any of its Central, Southwestern, Southern, or Eastern Taiwan Offices.

Alien Resident Certificate (ARC)

The newly appointed faculty member who gets a Resident Visa after having arrived in the R.O.C. (Taiwan) must apply for an Alien Resident Certificate at local service centers of the National Immigration Agency within 15 days from the Resident Visa issuance date.

10 working days (and staying in Taiwan)

Application for Alien Residence Certificate  (ARC) with a Visitor Visa

The newly appointed faculty member who enters the R.O.C. (Taiwan) on a Visitor Visa for the period of 60 days or up and without annotated disapproval of extension or other restrictions marked by the visa issuing authority must apply for an Alien Resident Certificate at local service centers of the National Immigration Agency within 15 days prior to the expiration of the visitor visa.

4. entering the R.O.C. (Taiwan) without a visa

Visitor Visa

The newly appointed faculty member who enters the R.O.C. (Taiwan) without a visa and have obtained a Work Permit issued by competent authorities of the R.O.C. (Taiwan) may apply for an extendable Visitor Visa to the Bureau of Consular Affairs or any of its Central, Southwestern, Southern, or Eastern Taiwan Offices.

 
Application for Alien Residence Certificate  (ARC) with a Visitor Visa

Those who get an extendable Visitor Visa after having arrived in the R.O.C. (Taiwan) must apply for an Alien Resident Certificate at local service centers of the National Immigration Agency within 15 days prior to the expiration of the visitor visa.

Alien sholars please prepare ARC, employees ID card and passport for account opening.

An employee service card is required to open an account at the Tsinghua University Service Office of E. Sun Bank and Mega Bank, and not required for opening an account at other branches.
